Day-to-day duties may involve:
Working in partnership with and supporting the Nursery Management to ensure the daily running of the Nursery.
Compliance with the Children’s Act, Health and Safety legislation and within the guidelines of Ofsted and the EYFS requirements.
Following and fully implementing the philosophy behind The Curiosity Approach.
Mentoring students and apprentices (where necessary).
Participate with planning, observations and assessments.
Be responsible for a group of key children.
Maintain learning journals of key group.
Act as cover / support in other rooms when required.
Acting as a role model within the nursery rooms as well as to the management team.
Ensure the well-being of the children is paramount which includes helping them to feel safe and secure in their environment.
Help to ensure that the daily routine of the room is carried out consistently, and is beneficial to the children.
Implement language of learning when carrying out discussions or activities with the children.
Follow behaviour management strategies set out by the Nursery Manager or Nursery SENDCO.
Ensure activities and resources are prepared before the start of each session, and clear them away at the end.
Ensure good levels of hygiene are maintained both personally and within the Nursery.
Cleaning duties which will include; sweeping and mopping floors after meals, cleaning tables before and after meals, sterilising toys and equipment, washing paint pots, brushes etc. after creative activities, toilet cleaning on a rota basis including sinks, staff room and staircase / corridor cleaning also on a rota basis.
Participate with children’s outdoor play during each session in all weathers (unless it is deemed unsafe to do so, in which case Health and Safety will take precedence).
Follow instructions given by Senior members of staff.
Be friendly and welcoming to visitors to the Nursery.
Safeguarding:
Have a sound knowledge of Safeguarding procedures within the setting and know how to report disclosures or concerns in the correct manner.
Know who to report Safeguarding concerns to.
Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times when discussing incidents, accidents etc. with Senior members of staff (e.g. not conversing in front of the children or students).
Be vigilant during the sessions to the children and other staff members, report any concerns to Designated Safeguarding Leaders.
Be aware of where to find information on Safeguarding within the Nursery and know how to invoke the ‘Whistleblowing’ policy should you need to do so.
Monitoring & Assessment:
Undertake regular observations of the children and provision to ensure effectiveness of teaching and learning.
Complete regular and ongoing assessments of key children, seeking support where needed if concerns arise.
Participate in ongoing assessment activities, adapting planning, activities and resources where necessary.
Kitchen & Nutrition:
Undertaking Level 2 Food Hygiene Training and follow the principles in practice.
Help children to prepare snack for the rest of nursery (as applicable) - Assisting with the preparation and serving of meals.
Act as a positive role model during meal and snack times.
Encourage and share positive messages regarding health and nutrition with the children.
Health & Safety:
Report all accidents, injuries, head injuries, physical interventions and injuries at home to Senior staff members, and complete the relevant forms with correct signatures.
Ensure good hygiene practices with, hand-washing and food preparation are maintained at all times.
Carry out daily risk assessments and fill in risk assessment sheets for the rooms as well as the outdoor area prior to use.
Sterilise toys and equipment regularly.
Report any damaged or broken equipment to the Nursery Manager
Ensure all children’s dietary requirements are met.
Ensure that all risk assessments are carried out before children are taken off the premises on visits and outings.
IT:
Using iconnect on Nursery tablets and computers to document and record the children’s learning.
Using TEAMS / ZOOM to attend any online training required.
Parents & Carers:
Ensuring customer facing activities are conducted to a high standard.
Provide detailed feedback and progress updates to parents at scheduled meetings.
Engage with parents at ‘Stay & Play’ sessions.
Training:
Attend relevant training to maintain a good knowledge of child development, and keep up to date with mandatory training as stated in the staff handbook.
Take part in regular training during monthly staff meetings.
Attend annual appraisal meeting with Nursery Manager.
Attend regular Supervision meetings with Manager / Assistant Manager.
Other:
Discuss aspects of your job role and your work with the children with Ofsted inspectors and Early Years Advisory teams as required - Be present for open day / Stay & Play sessions on request.
Take part in various outings with the children as the group leader.

Training to be provided: Training for this qualification will be provided by ourselves at SCCU Group, an Ofsted good training provider. Our tuition is all delivered in the workplace and bespoke to your particular role. Dependent on the learner's prior knowledge.
Early Years Educator Level 3 Standard, 18 months practical with an additional 2 months End Point Assessment period.
Functional Skills in Maths, and English (if required).
Working Week and Hours: Monday – Friday, Shift patterns may vary.
